OK folks, it's a GO. The US rally is scheduled for Memorial
Day weekend, May 27-29,00. I'm reassured that we will
have money to put this together, thanks to those of you
who responded to our "meet costs" post.
Here's the rough outline: The meet itself will NOT be
held at our farm, due to liability issues. We are looking at
three local state parks: Meeman-Shelby, on the MS river
near Millington, TN; Chickasaw which is a few miles NE
of Memphis; and Fort Pillow, about 50 miles N of Memphis.
We have not yet contacted any of these places, so the
location type is subject to change. We will do our best to
find a site with reasonable-priced motel(s) within 10-20
miles.
Activities we are considering include a "Run to Graceland"
for surely you out-of-towners want to see Elvis' home (if
not, please let us know - we couldn't care less about Elvis);
a poker run through the TN countryside, possibly pausing
at the MS river bluffs for a little fossil-hunting; several
games at the park (you know, egg race, water balloon race,
fun stuff like that); and an informal bike show. We will
also have some kids activities
planned IF we're told in advance that kids will be coming.
Saturday night looks like a BBQ (and, possibly, a fish
fry, too if it looks like we'll have a crowd). If we can
swing it we'll try to have a local band, too, maybe, or
gather at a local rider's hangout.
It just depends on how much response we get from you guys
and from local clubs, as to how big this rally will be.
We're looking at starting things off on Friday night,
maybe with just a get-together around the campfire (to
give folk time to arrive). We don't think we'll plan
anything specific for Monday, since a lot of folk will
be leaving that day.
A website will be up hopefully by the end of the week
(even if it's just a bare-bones one, for now). We'll
post the URL later this week.
PLEASE KEEP IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS COMING. THIS ONE'S FOR YOU
AND WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT!
WD and I are looking forward to meeting all of you next
May.
